| Creating Connections Company, LLC, offers a unique combination of Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT) and other developmental interventions (including DIR®/Floortime TM) that provides our clients with multi-sensory, individualized treatment. What is Music Therapy? Music therapy is the specialized use of music by a credentialed professional who develops individualized treatment and supportive interventions with people of all ages and ability levels. Because music therapy is a powerful and enjoyable medium, unique outcomes are possible. For individuals with special needs (including autism), music therapy provides a variety of music experiences in an intentional and developmentally appropriate manner to effect changes in behavior and facilitate development of skills. What is Neurologic Music Therapy? Neurologic music therapy (NMT) is the research-based, therapeutic application of music to cognitive, sensory, and motor function in people with neurologic disorders, including autism. NMT is based upon the scientific knowledge of music perception and production and the effects of this knowledge on nonmusical behavior and brain function. Research has shown that NMT is an effective intervention in many areas of brain functioning, including cognitive, communicative, affective, and sensorimotor. What is Floortime TM? Floortime TM is a play-based developmental therapy which fosters growth in all areas of development, particularly emotional and social development, through relationships with others. It is part of the DIR ® (Developmental, Individual-Difference, Relationship-Based) approach, associated with Stanley Greenspan. DIR ® is a therapeutic strategy which addresses a child's developmental challenges through relationship and affect. A DIR®/Floortime TM philosophy emphasizes respecting and getting in tune with children in order to help them express their ideas, and strategically supporting development through the natural process of play and interaction. |
